Three-time Grammy award winner and multi-platinum selling producer, engineer, and mixer Andrew Dawson began his career at Sony Studios, making his mark as Kanye West’s go-to engineer. He has since developed a fruitful relationship with the rapper, working on every album since College Dropout and winning three Grammys for Best Rap Album (Late Registration, Graduation, and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy). Dawson has also worked with a number of other notable artists including fun., The Rolling Stones, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, John Legend and Tyler the Creator.
After moving to Los Angeles from New York, Dawson founded SoundEQ Studios where he has produced and mixed records for a broad range of artists. In 2011 he worked with Jeff Bhasker on Fun.’s breakout album Some Nights (Fueled by Ramen), most of which was recorded at SoundEQ, including the chart-topping single “We Are Young.” In 2012 he was tapped to produce the Pet Shop Boys’ Elysium (Parlophone), P.O.S.’s We Don’t Even Live Here (Rhymesayers), as well as working on The Rolling Stones’ GRRR! (Polydor) and The Summer Set’s Legendary (Fearless).
More recently, in 2013 Dawson engaged in a variety of projects including producing, engineering, mixing and co-writing the Night Terrors of 1927’s Guilty Pleas EP and forthcoming album (Atlantic), and mixing both Sleigh Bells’ Bitter Rivals (Mom + Pop) and parts of Tyler, the Creator’s Wolf (Odd Future Records) in addition to engineering on Kanye West’s Yeezus (Roc-A-Fella / Def Jam). Dawson closed the year mixing Childish Gambino’s Because The Internet (Glassnote), with upcoming projects slated through much of 2014.
